Keeping Creative Faith:

I stumbled upon a fantastic interview between
national
coach Cheryl
Richardson and author Andre Dubus last
week. Andre is the author of The Oprah Book
Club pick,
"The House of Sand and Fog," and a new book,
"The Garden of Last Days."

In the interview Cheryl and Andre discuss the
writer’s life, creativity, publishing and
many other inspiring topics. I highly
recommend downloading this and listening in
while you are working at your desk, in your
garden, studio or while making dinner for
yourself or your clan.

One of the magical moments was when
Andre described sending his books to at least
25 publishers EACH before finding that one
who was willing to take the risk with him. If
you know his work, you know the rest is
history, including Oprah’s endorsement.

It isn’t always easy to hold on to
perseverance and faith, yet as creative
individuals, these traits are necessary to
sustain belief in our talent and the gifts we
have to bring to the world.

Here are a few tips to keeping creative
faith. If you have some you would like to
share, you can post it here.

  1. Perseverance is kind of an old-fashioned concept, isn’t it? In this day of instant gratification, it’s a quality many of us have totally forgotten about.
Thank you for the excellent reminder!
Now, if I could only figure out which walls really ARE reinforced concrete.:-)

  2. Thank you for writing Mai-liis. I completely agree. It is becoming an “old fashioned concept” in this age of mad technology.
The need to slow down is truly on my mind these days and I feel a big values check on my horizon.
    Good luck with the concrete!
    Hugs…
