I’ll admit that fall is not my favorite season. I’ve always had a hard time with the loss of seemingly endless days in nature’s beauty, digging in the dirt, planting seeds, and the manifestation of possibilities that spring and summer bring.

To be truthful this year there is full-throttle resistance inside me as the season begins to change. Last winter was long, grey, and extremely cold. Our typical Colorado bluebird days were few and far between, making spring’s arrival a reassurance and promise of what was to come.

Much of my work in the world is through metaphor. Transforming literal concepts, feelings, and emotions into art, poetry, and experiential wisdom, calling on unconscious wisdom to guide us.

During a recent Art, Healing, and HOPE virtual gathering, one of my students shared this quote. It was a lightning bolt to my heart. I asked her permission to share it and she generously said, “Of course.”

I wrote the prayer in a tiny accordion journal created with leftover paper from a larger handmade journal. This page sits open on my art table, a reminder that I am part of a greater design.

“I am One with the Holy Flow” are words I will take into my days as a reminder that change is constant, as is the cycle of life. Birth, Death. Rebirth As I witness the glorious colors that signal the trees sending their energy back to the earth, they remind me it is time to go inward, to slow things down and move into the Dreamtime. And so today I will tend my fading garden and nurture the soil for spring’s arrival, knowing that change is inevitable, and more importantly transformative.
